Thank you.

For those who don't read Greer's blog, I recommend it highly.

The Archdruid Report

Yes, Greer is a practicing Druid, but don't let that throw you off. His writing on history and human civilization, and where we are going from here, are thought provoking and insightful, without any sort of anti-christian dogma. His community of commentators is a friendly place to exchange ideas and well moderated by people who are willing to look at all sides of an argument.

I would also like to recommend Greer's sister site

Green Wizards.Org

It is a site focusing on sustainability, living with the environment, gardening and ways to help you in a world that is harder and harder to live in.

Please come by and say hello.

Dave
(moderator at Green Wizrds,org)dltrammelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01554126580069302931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30648257.post-9001644826652671052012-06-02T14:54:03.630-07:002012-06-02T14:54:03.630-07:00John Michael Greer is coming up on my radio show. ...John Michael Greer is coming up on my radio show. I finished that one about a month ago, and was very engaged to see how he traced out a lot of the same history I was concurrently reading in Ehrman from a very different and refreshing perspective. He's discussing the role of spirituality and religion in society's response to peak oil in his blog this week, BTW. I'm going to recommend he check out your blog.HalFiorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18432415155069446325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30648257.post-52879359708461354212012-05-30T13:05:23.979-07:002012-05-30T13:05:23.979-07:00This was a great sermon. The best part of the sermon, though, is in the audio, but not the printed version.

After this part: "There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. Comparing Acts to the three big revolts you referenced to gave the early Church a perfect way to distance themselves from Jews and Judaism in one clean sweep.

When the day comes we truly come clean to what was real and fiction in the Bible, it's going to be quite a (revealing) surprise!

A great sermon, as always! In the meantime, one of the key contributors was Richard Pervo, some of his ideas will be in it. Here is an interview and his latest book on Acts.

That Greer book is quite good. I am going to try to get him on the radio show. He says that the apocalypse meme came from the Persians (Zoroaster) into Israel. Maybe Babylonians got it from Persia as well.

It is a violent meme. The big question is whether or not Jesus was apocalyptic. Jesus Seminar is in the minority saying no and Ehrman is in the majority saying yes. I think it is telling that Ehrman is also not a Christian. Kind of a shame that this literary style was frozen in amber, as it were, in the pages of the Bible and people to this day continue to think of it as a future prediction instead of a transitory ancient literary style, and organize their lives around it.

I can't wait to read the Acts report; I assume it will be a big book like 'The Five Gospels', etc?Michael_SChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14179192580620356545noreply@blogger.com
