I just set out to prove that I was unworthy to be a pastor. I should have read my Bible. God always chooses unlikely people.

As for the effects of growing up in the '60's and my current ministry:

1. I have a distinct distrust of government officials particularly over issues about war and race.
2. I am very concerned that we Presbyterians talk a good like about multiethnic communities but the Pentecostals live it out. I currently live in a racially mixed area and am trying to turn an elderly white congregation into a multiethnic congregation. It isn't easy!Pastor Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10510081361292855641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30648257.post-21477998836752209652007-08-29T06:11:00.000-07:002007-08-29T06:11:00.000-07:00Hi, that was indeed good stuff and a great story (...Hi, that was indeed good stuff and a great story (I'm still playing catch-up on reading through these). I'm curious, you said that you knew God had spoken to you and told you to be a minister and for that you thought "God was crazy." I have to wonder, did you also think that you might be the one who is crazy to believe God had spoken to you? Just a thought that crossed my mind as I read; I'm not doubting that it was the real deal in your case; just wondering what an experience like that would feel like.

It is interesting that you received your calling from God at a time when you (and the country as a whole) were struggling with civil rights and the Vietnam war. I appreciated reading your struggles through these things within your family, school and in church. I wonder to what degree these early experiences still instruct your ministering in recent times. Thanks for sharing...Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13836922959782457029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30648257.post-8337901021936637042007-08-23T23:30:00.000-07:002007-08-23T23:30:00.000-07:00Thanks Bob! Especially, I enjoyed your experience with the youth group:

"It was my first experience of what the Church is meant to be: a non-judgmental group of people who simply love you because of Jesus."

Amen!John Shuckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00798753206614838161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30648257.post-39110600943276082452007-08-21T11:06:00.000-07:002007-08-21T11:06:00.000-07:00That's some good stuff!
