Mountains Are A Moral Issue

Most people do not want their mountains destroyed in order to get coal. They are wise. The powerful and wealthy plan to do it anyway. Will our elected officials listen to the wise or the wealthy?

Mountains are a moral issue.

Join us this Sunday at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, September 11th, at 6 p.m., the Peacemaking Team of FPCe will present
Benji Burrell, of iLoveMountains.org and Appalachian Voices.

Mr. Burrell will speak about the devastating environmental, economic, and human impact of mountaintop removal mining (MTR).

Mr. Burrell is webmaster of the award winning iLoveMountains.org website, and produces videos and organizing tools for their campaign to end mountaintop removal coal mining. His videos and 3D Google Earth tours have been viewed hundreds of thousands of times, and were shown to UN delegates during the Climate Change talks in Copenhagen.

He is an experienced manufacturing engineer with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech. As an AmeriCorps volunteer, he served as the organization’s Forest Restoration Program Coordinator, producing a revised edition of “Managing Your Woodlands: A Guide for Southern Appalachian Landowners.”

Come learn about the very real threat to the mountains of Tennessee, and the impact MTR will have on their people, environment, and economies.
