Abortion as a Moral Decision

If you are a religious leader, you might be interested in signing the following letter from the Religious Institute on Sexual Morality, Justice, and Healing. The Religious Institute issued the following statement.

RELIGIOUS LEADERS RESPOND TO THE MURDER OF DR. GEORGE TILLER
Westport, CT, June 2, 2009 – The Religious Institute today issued a statement on behalf of national religious organizations and religious leaders in the wake of the murder of Dr. George Tiller in his church on Sunday, May 31, 2009. The statement is signed by religious leaders, including the Presidents of three national denominations, who have joined to mourn for Dr. Tiller and to condemn the violence that led to his death. The statement and a list of signatories – still in formation – follows.

STATEMENT OF RELIGIOUS LEADERS ON THE MURDER OF DR. GEORGE TILLER

As religious leaders, we affirm that life is sacred.

We mourn for Dr. George Tiller. We decry the cruel act of violence that ended his life. We pray for his family, friends, colleagues, and staff, and for the untold number of women and families who have been deprived of his compassionate care.

We condemn physical and verbal violence and harassment directed against abortion clinics, their staffs, and their clients. We call for a society that assures safe access and delivery of reproductive health care services, both for the women and families who need them, and the practitioners who provide them.
You may be so inclined to endorse the statement, An Open Letter to Religious Leaders on Abortion as a Moral Decision. I have endorsed this statement as well.

  1. I'm pleased someone spoke up.

John, how many times have you seen people accuse me of hyperbole when I call these people, like Roeder, "Taliban"?
If you read TriCities.com probably hundreds of times.

I'm not kidding and I'm not wrong. These people are exactly the "christian" Taliban. There is no difference save historical details.
Jim Adkisson, now this terrorist....This is real and it's only just begun unfortunately.

Be on your guard and instruct your flock to do likewise, John.
There's more brewing here than just random nutcases snapping. Roeder is not nuts. He knew exactly what he was doing.

    Be well, my friend.

  2. "These people are exactly the "christian" Taliban."

    Who exactly are "these people"?

  3. Right Wing "pro-life" (should read pro-death) pseudo-christian conservative Republicans.

Sorry for the long descriptive. Distinguishing "these people" from real Christians is a complex task.

  4. Trying again: if you want to know about Christianity, ask a Christian. If you want to know about Islam, ask a Muslim, and so forth. With that in mind, I encourage everyone to read this article:

  5. Very powerful, snad.

This is what the Taliban refuse to comprehend. Abortion, though unpleasant as it may be, is a medical necessity sometimes.

Such decisions are best kept between a woman and her Dr. and no Fascist whack job has the right to dictate those decisions. By law or by sword.
