Just in Time for General Assembly

Network News is on-line in pdf. This is a publication of Presbyterian Voices for Justice, formerly the Witherspoon Society.

This is the preparation for General Assembly issue and it includes interviews with the candidates who are standing for moderator, reflections on overtures coming to GA, plus other news and views. A copy of this issue will be sent to every GA delegate.

Surprise of surprises, editor Doug King even referenced one of my sermons in his piece,
Two Images for Thinking About GA. How cool is that?

I will be admiring General Assembly from afar but making commentary nonetheless. So do check in to Shuck and Jive for the wild and wacky world of Presbyterianism.

By the way, Reese says she really likes the new name and hopes that with the name change I'll stop posting pics of her on my blog.

Not likely.

  1. Dude, you forgot to mention Voices of Sophia!

  2. Thank you, Bob. Voices of Sophia and Witherspoon merged to make Presbyterian Voices for Justice.

  3. Thank you, thank you, thank you for continuing to use Reese Witherspoon's pictures in your blog! Don't listen to her! We need to see Reese!

  4. @ John

If you look carefully at the Voices for Justice page you will find a letter from me. I suggested that large churches presbytery minimum should be required to lower the pastor's salary (after recognizing the cost of living in the community where the church is) and use the funds to raise the salaries of other pastors or, better still, to fund small churches so that they can have a pastor.

I know, that makes me a socialist, doesn't it? :)

  5. I know, that makes me a socialist, doesn't it? :)

Another swell idea is that churches regardless of size that withhold funds to presbytery or higher governing bodies for ideological reasons get no representation in the higher governing bodies, receive no assistance from higher governing bodies, and are barred from using the disciplinary procedures in order to be busybodies.

    Thus it has been spoken.
    Thus it shall be done.

  6. Whoa, just had a splendid idea. Invite Reese to the ACSWP dance at GA as the guest of honor!
