Prophet of Doom

My favorite prophet of doom,
Michael Ruppert, is going to be featured on the History Channel tonight at 9 p.m. The show, appropriately titled, "Prophets of Doom" will air at 9 p.m. Eastern time:

Today's world has troubles unique to its time in history, from the global financial crisis to technological meltdowns to full scale, computerized global war. Observing the convergence of such events, contemporary prophets have begun to emerge from obscurity to suggest that these conditions might be signs of the demise of the modern world. These men are historians as well, using all manner of information and patterns from the past to provide context for where we are going. Their predictions interpret the current state of affairs in our world as evidence that the America we know may come to an end. The men proposing these ideas are not crackpots living on the streets of New York; they are intelligent, learned men who come armed with the evidence to back up their claims.

My second favorite prophet of doom, James Howard Kunstler, is also featured. Yeah, Kunstler, you are my second-favorite. Deal with it.

You can also
order the DVD.

Knowing the History Channel, it will probably be a mix of important information and sensationalist disinformation.

At any rate...

Happy Apocalypse!

  1. It turned out to be a good program and both Kunstler and Ruppert did very well. There was one guy out of place (robots taking over) but the rest dealt with the real stuff: population, peak oil, economics, water, and nuclear terrorism. I wish the program had provided the names of the speakers more often. I am going to have to search around for the ones I didn't know. I will make a post on it later.

  2. Did you by chance order the DVD? It may be a good Adult Forum topic, eh? (And that would give me a chance to see it, she said sheepishly.)

  3. I think I will order it although it won't be released as a DVD until mid-February. By then we may already be toast! : ) Just kidding (nervously).

I am guessing that they will air it again. Although the DVD should be about half the time without that incessant advertising.

  4. OK, why is Kunstler my second-favorite?

First of all, I value him and highly recommend his books, Long Emergency, and especially his two dystopian novels which really spell out what he sees our future to be. It is not all bad, in fact, redemptive.

What bugs me about him is that he a little too often comes across as condescending to the South.

  5. Oh good grief. Since when are global financial crises, technological meltdowns and global war unique to this time in history?

Humans are so myopic, we always think what's happening to us is completely unique and unprecedented. I hate to evoke a cultural observer as banal as Billy Joel, but whenever I hear people pontificate about how we live in completely unprecedented times I want to hum a few bars of "we didn't start the fire."

  6. You are right, Beale - they are not new and we will most likely survive these (well, many of us, anyway), but they will be a lot more uncomfortable, the more entrenched we get in our current complacency.
