Thanks to the Johnson City Press for including this article about Michael Morgan in today's paper. He presented his collection of Bibles at the Presbytery meeting today. It is some awesome history.

You will see this collection tomorrow at 9:45 a.m. at the Adult Forum if you visit with us. He is also going to perform a recital tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. Hebrew Psalms for Christian Seasons. He will also have some of his Bible collection available at that time.

ELIZABETHTON — Michael Morgan, a musician, organist, collector of Bibles, psalters and liturgies, will be at First Presbyterian Church, 119 W. F St., on Sunday as part of the church’s yearlong 225th Heritage Jubilee Celebration.

Morgan is a Georgia native and long-time organist at Atlanta’s historic Central Presbyterian Church. He also serves as seminary musician at Columbia Theological Seminary. Previously he served congregations in Florida, California and Arkansas.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and a master’s from Clark Atlanta University, and did post-graduate work with Richard Purvis at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.

He has played worship services and recitals at Presbyterian music and worship conferences in the United States and Switzerland, England and Spain. He has participated in organ seminars in Great Britain, Germany and France. He holds the highest degree of certification (CCM) conferred by the Presbyterian Association of Musicians.

Morgan serves as dean of the Atlanta Chapter, American Guild of Organists; treasurer of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians; and is a member of the Hymn Society of the United States and Canada.

His primary interest is the history and literature of the English Bible, Psalms and liturgies of the English Church. His library of English Bibles, testaments, psalters and liturgies is one of the most complete collections in the country.

In 1999 his paraphrase of the Psalms, “The Psalter for Christian Worship, was published by the Office of Theology and Worship of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

A portion of his collection of Bibles will be displayed in the church’s Martin Hall for public viewing during the Adult Forum at 9:45 a.m. Sunday.

Also, Morgan will provide a sampling of his penned psalters with the Chancel Choir and will perform an organ piece during the 11 a.m. service. At 3 p.m. Morgan will perform an organ recital in the sanctuary.

There are no admission charges. A “thanks-offering” will be taken during the organ recital.
