Rabbi Michael Lerner on Gaza

Here is an important essay by Rabbi Michael Lerner, editor of Tikkun:

Israel in Gaza: Right but not Smart

Israel's attempt to wipe out Hamas is understandable, but dumb. No country in the world is going to ignore the provocation of rockets being launched from neighboring territory day after day. If Mexico had a group of anti-imperialist South Americans bombing Texas, imagine how long it would take for the U.S. to mobilize a counter-attack. Israel has every right to respond.

But the kind of response matters.

Massive bombings of the sort that have thus far killed over 400 Palestinians and wounded 1,000 other civilians is a classic example of a disproportionate response. (Read More)

This is a thoughtful piece with strategies for peace in the Middle East.

  1. Now I have a question for Rabbi Learner:

If the UN said that Mexico could have California back and the Mexican gov't set up shop there, would we have the right to drive them out?

Typical, toothless Jewish critique of an inexcusable act of terrorism.

I wonder how many of those "rockets" were false flag op launched by Israelis to attempt to justify ethnic cleansing in Gaza.

  2. I think the good rabbi has made some good points with a solution for peace.

We need to step across boundaries and make solutions for co-existence.

I think Lerner is about that.
