For thousands of years man has been smart enough to accept what the Bible says in Genesis 1 and 2 about the beginning of the universe. Just because a man named Charles Darwin had some sort of epiphany as he watched a bear swimming across a lake and came up with the survival of the fittest, natural selection and the theory of evolution does not mean we should toss out what we know to be the truth and heritage of the Word of God. Besides, it is said that Charles Darwin before he died regretted and rescinded his theory of evolution. Last I checked, evolution is still just a theory. No one has ever come up with an actual fact that proves evolution to be true. For those of you who continually call evolution a fact of science, then show us the facts! We need true facts, not just someone's speculation or some far out postulation.
First Presbyterian Church in recent days has pushed to recognize evolution as a fact of science and for that reason have even decided to take what man says over God's infallible Word. To this we say how foolish and anti-God that position is. It is not our job as Christians to discredit the Word of God, neither is it our place to attempt to back up man's theories. Evil-ution, That's What It Is!!
How is it that this guy gets an article and a letter to the editor? My colleague down the street (the same one who got an article about himself on Saturday) wrote a letter to the Elizabethton Star. It was published yesterday. Here is a portion of his wisdom:

Our constitution [sic] grants us the freedom of religion. This freedom gives us the right to worship God, not to worship false idols or to teach our children false doctrines.
ReplyDeleteTo coin a phrase, HOLY SHIT!
You got a right to an opinion, buddy, but if you want Religious Police, I recommend you try Saudi Arabia first.
To quote Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, from the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom:
"Whereas Almighty God hath created the mind free; that all attempts to influence it ... tend only to beget habits of hypocrisy and meanness, and are a departure from the plan of the Holy author of our religion, who being Lord both of body and mind, yet chose not to propagate it by coercions on either, as it was in his Almighty power to do; that the impious presumption of legislators and rulers, civil as well as ecclesiastical, who being themselves but fallible and uninspired men, have assumed dominion over the faith of others, setting up their own opinions ... as the only true and infallible, and as such endeavouring to impose them on others, hath established and maintained false religions over the greatest part of the world, and through all time;... that our civil rights have no dependence on our religious opinions, any more than our opinions in physics or geometry...
Be it enacted by the General Assembly, That no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened ... nor shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinion in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish enlarge, or affect their civil capacities."
Jefferson stipulated in his will that his epitaph only list three of his accomplishments:
AUTHOR OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
OF THE VIRGINIA STATUTE FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM
AND THE FATHER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA
"Our constitution [sic] grants us the freedom of religion. This freedom gives us the right to worship God, not to worship false idols or to teach our children false doctrines."
ReplyDeleteYeah, I saw that too. Oy.
But it's just more of the same from these nutjobs. They completely ignore and or bastardize orthodox theology, then claim that their imaginings are what "orthodox" has meant all along. So it's not surprising that they're doing the same thing with the Constitution. Have you heard the argument that these wackos put forth that the establishment clause only means that Congress couldn't establish one particular Christian denomination over any other? Apparently, according to them, that's always been the "traditional" understanding. Seriously.
I'm beginning to believe a little reparative therapy might be in order to cure these folks of their delusions.
Now, John, remember that you are on the buckle of the Bible Belt. You, as a heathen, do not have the same considerations under the Constitution in this part of the country as do the fundamentalists.

ReplyDeleteWhich goes to prove that this person has no clue what a theory is or what science is.
For all we know he wears suction cups on his shoes just in case. After all, gravity is just some theory that Newton had some sort of epiphany about after getting smacked in the head by an apple (proving it the work of Satan).
