A blog rating widget, Blogged.com has informed me that a reader has rated Shuck and Jive. And not favorably I might add. This was the comment by a reader named Alan:
Rated: 0.3My father was an Elk. The Elks had the best handball courts in Butte, Montana.
Comment: This man has no business calling himself a pastor. He does not believe the Bible is the inerrant word of God, does not believe in hell, or the resurrected Christ. Why does he not just go join the local Elks club?

I am leaning toward the Royal Order of the Opossums.
I like their hats.
I would be interested to know how your reader arrived at the precise rating of "0.3". No doubt through a rigorous analysis of your views.
ReplyDeleteI can sympathize, since I just entered the blogosphere as a former Southern Baptist turned progressive Christian. On the one hand, I have been amazed at the open-mindedness I have encountered. But on the other hand, I am saddened by how many folks are unwilling to engage in any kind of dialogue, preferring to dismiss anyone who does not agree with their interpretations as "not a real Christian."
Would the Elks accept you, John? I am, at comments like Alan's, delightfully reminded of the Groucho Marx quote: "I refuse to join any club that would accept me as a member."

Can I be an opossum too?
ReplyDelete0.3! Wow, that is like leaving a very tiny tip... No tip might be an error, but say .50 is a clear insult.
ReplyDeleteWell honestly Pastor Shuck, what do you expect? You are over here spouting off about peace, forgiveness, love, generosity, understanding and wisdom.
I mean really John, really!
(hee hee!)
I like the model wearing the hat even better.
