Holston Presbytery Responds to Knoxville Shooting

Thanks to our executive presbyter/stated clerk Rich Fifield and to moderator, Bob Lowry, of Holston Presbytery for sending this letter to our congregations regarding the shooting in Knoxville.

Friends,

We are all shocked by the tragic shooting at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville on Sunday, July 27. Undoubtedly, many of you have already responded to those affected by upholding them in your prayers and through other expressions of support and sympathy. At least one Holston Presbytery congregation, First Church, Elizabethton, has held a candlelight service for their community.

Additional letters of support, encouragement and sympathy may be sent to the two congregations most impacted:

Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church

2931 Kingston Pike
Knoxville, TN 37919-4624

Westside Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
616 Fretz Road
Knoxville, TN 37934-1604

Also, the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations has established a special Knoxville Relief Fund to bring ministry, spiritual care, and practical financial assistance to the victims. Donations may be made online at:

Below is a letter from the Presbyterian Church (USA) to all congregations regarding the tragic events.

Holston Presbytery is filled with compassionate people--thank you, once again, for being a visible demonstration of the good news of Jesus Christ to our community and beyond!

Grace and peace,

Rich Fifield, Executive Presbyter/Stated Clerk
Robert Lowry, Moderator, Holston Presbytery
