There is hope in spite of the IRD.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite line from the verdict is that you can't punish someone for performing same-sex marrieages while at the same time maintaining that there is no such thing as a same-sex marriage.

It seems that we could have figured that out before going to all of this trouble.
I think a question might be if a Presbyterian Minister can sign a marriage license for a same-gender couple in Massachusetts and be OK with the PCUSA. This must have happened by now.

ReplyDeleteIt definitely sounds to me like it doesn't matter, because the definition of marriage they're using is the Book of Order's definition (one man, one woman) not the State's definition.
