SoIimmediately thought of Mark's gospel:James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." And he said to them, "What is it you want me to do for you?" And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory." But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?" (Mark 10:35-28)
or another austin lounge lizards gospel tune that always causes me to chuckle: on the other shore. its how everything will be reconciled when we meet on the other shore: all the unmated socks will match up, jeans will fit again, etc. its about everything spirituality and community isn't.
That reminds me of a song I've heard Iris Dement do. Some of the lyrics are, "God may forgive you but I won't. Jesus may love you but I don't."
ReplyDeleteI have crush on Iris. She is Jesus' second favorite.

ReplyDeleteWhat a biblegeek I am!
I personally recommend the song "Jesus Loves Me, but He Can't Stand You" by the Austin Lounge Lizards.
