We are in the Star!

The Elizabethton Star, serving Northeast Tennessee since 1894, did a nice article about our 225th anniversary celebration this Sunday. The article begins:

First Presbyterian Church will begin celebrating its 225th anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 26. During the 11 a.m. worship service, the Rev. John Shuck, the church's pastor, will preach a sermon delivered by the Rev. Horace C. Atwater, who served as the church's pastor from 1870 to 1877. The sermon is entitled, "Special Blessings and Presents of God."

"He would write it with a fountain pen all in longhand," Shuck said of Atwater. "He would make little notes in there in pencil. This sermon was done in 1876, so it was the centennial of the nation.

"He had just come back from General Assembly, so he was all excited about Presbyterianism, uniting the country, and a real hopefulness about the future." The sermon text is First Samuel 7:12. (Read More)

They even took a pic of me holding one of Rev. Atwater's sermons while wearing my austere black robe!
