Obama Won Debate and Will Win Election

To calm the fears of Obama supporters who thought Obama was too nice and didn't go for the jugular during last night's debate, let me put it to rest. Obama will win because the Republicans don't deserve another term. They have trashed our economy, led us into war on the basis of blatant lies, have let the selfish and greedy prosper at the expense our common good, and have tarnished our international reputation.

Last night, McCain was the face of that legacy. McCain is McBush. You could see it in his body language. He never looked at his opponent. He was contemptuous and sarcastic. That is not a sign of strength or confidence. That is weakness masked by aggressiveness. His leadership will be disastrous on the international scene as he will alienate allies and increase hostilities with those who seek to do us harm. He will continue the reputation of the U.S. as a mafia thug.

Obama on the other hand was respectful. He looked at his opponent. He addressed him by his first name on several occasions. When it was appropriate he agreed with his opponent. He demonstrated the confident, respectful, and mature leadership our nation needs to heal the damage done by eight years of immaturity. He will build allies and will work with the international community and make America respected again.

Some think that Obama needs to sink to McCain's level. I disagree. Obama will win and he will win on his own terms--the terms of dignity, intelligence, cooperation, and decency.

  1. Amen! I think Obama wins every time he takes the high road.

  2. They should both take the high rode.

I have always been impressed in a positive way by McCain. Always until yesterday. Last night I saw arrogance and contempt from him that I had not seen before. And a few good lies too.

Sarcasm and contempt are the last refuge of losers.

But McCain still has a few tricks up his sleeve. I think he will dump Palin at the last minute and try to take the last kill shot before the election.

He said one thing I liked. No more cost plus defense contracts. I agree. Cost plus was invented for developing science fiction technologies. It should still be used for that. But there are other defense contracts that are for relatively mundane technologies that should be competed as commercial ventures. Multiple sources, fixed prices, guaranteed product support and customer satisfaction.

But it will still be a landslide for Obama.

  3. I think McCain lost last night the second he walked on stage. He said he wouldn't be there, remember? Remember all the way back to Thursday when he implied that the world would come to an end if he attended the debate?

Then he went anyway. Barack pwned him, as the kids say. It looks to me like he's already getting used to taking orders from the new Commander in Chief.

  4. Yes Obama will win. McCain is a McDumbAss and the American people could not possibly vote for him. If you missed the Saturday Night Live clip of Palin and Couric, you can catch it here.

John, quick question: you use the word global cooperation alot and how Obama is the best to seek global cooperation. Why do you support his vision of global cooperation? If you look a little deeper you will see that Obama's idea of global cooperation is exactly the same as McDumbAss's. For example, in the debate the other night,

"McBomba and O'Cain agreed on a lot, like the "next conflict" (Obomba's expression) with Afghanistan and Pakistan. Both tended to speak in vague generalities and used a lot of misleading and otherwise trivial figures."

"Both emphasized "protecting the economy" with the Big Brother socialization of the economy as outlined in their Joint Statement on the Bush "Bailout"--although it was not directly discussed of course."

"Both agreed that Iran had to stop it's nuke program, despite the fact that the NIE on Iran indicated that it was not building a nuclear weapon as of mid-2007 and that Israel is our BFF (best friend forever)."

"Iraq was primarily a contentious "football issue", with little doubt that both War Party frontmen would remain committed to maintaining an occupying force in that U.S. Military Prefecture for "as long as it takes"."

So my question to Shuck and Jivers is why do you support either one of these clowns when both want to pursue a Global Corporate Empire at the taxpayers expense?

  5. I'll bite.

Because Barack Obama's constituency is ordinary people--the people who have made his average contribution less than $250 and the people who have registered to vote in record numbers in order to support him. As the late, great Molly Ivins reminded us, one of the cardinal rules of politics is "you got to dance with them what brung you". For the first time in a long time, we have a Presidential candidate who's been brung by the people. It's up to us to make sure he dances with us.

I do not think that Barack Obama will be a perfect President. I am a huge fan of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and while I think that they did more for the country than any President save Jefferson, they were not perfect.

However, he will be better than John McCain. Infinitely better.

I'm from Georgia, of course, so I am well acquainted with lesser-of-two-evils voting.

  6. Rachel -

I watched the SNL skit you linked, then watched the clips of Palin's actual interview. The skit was funny until I realized they didn't even deviate from what she said. You can't have a parody of something if you don't even have to change a word, you know?

All I can say is, I love you for being so passionate about wanting to change the 2-party system. However, if the contents of your own blog don't compel you to vote AGAINST this woman by voting FOR the reasonable alternative, you're pissin' into the wind, my friend!

Obi-wan once thought as you do. You don't know the power of the Dark Side. I must obey my master!
