Who Would Jesus Bailout?

Doug at Witherspoon has published some essays regarding the proposed bailout for Fannie and Freddie. Isn't it interesting how these huge corporate institutions use friendly names for themselves, as if Fannie and Freddie are your next door neighbors? Doug asks what would Jesus do?

Check these essays.

I kind of like this plan (except of course, the math is too good to be true):

Already comes this delightful idea, sent by Witherspooner Bill Coop.

The Birk Economic Recovery Plan

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child.

So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $850 billon that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.

  1. The Birk Economic Bailout Plan is a lovely idea, but fails basic arithmetic. $85 Billion divided among 200 Million people is $425 per person, not $425,000. Even Dubya did better than that earlier this year....

  2. Ha! No wonder I liked that plan so much! What's a few zeros?

  3. They are talking about a maximum of 700 billion. If that is true and there are indeed 200 million adults in the U.S.. It would still only be $3500.

How sad that a person that supposedly supports objective science cannot do basic elementary school mathematics? Hmmm...what's wrong with this picture?

  4. $3500 huh?

I'll take that and let it trickle up.

Seriously, there is something to be said about using this opportunity to rethink our values and the best use of taxpayer funds.

  5. tater brain,

    huh... that's $4,250.00 per person.

    Geez...

A bargain if it really does stop this train wreck.

Just the tip of the ice berg if it doesn't.

  6. Jodie,

I think the math discrepancy occurs because the guy first said 85 billion then 850 billion.

    85 billion for 200 million is 425.

    850 billion for 200 million is 4250.

It was funny that this guy did all this work and then got the math wrong.

That all said: the larger point is how do we Americans decide about all of this? What are our values? Who would Jesus bailout?

  7. Jesus would bailout everybody. duh.

Isn't that what the whole incarnation/substitutionary atonement /for God so love the world that he gave his only Son and so on and so forth is all about?

The mega bailout of all history!

Of course the Fundamentalists would have Jesua place some conditions on the bailout. For example you must say "I believe" and say you are sorry.

But it would still be a bailout.
