Easter Doubters

I enjoyed this piece from Garrison Keillor in today's Johnson City Press, Easter is a rough time for someone to be a doubter. He concludes:
Skepticism is a stimulant, not to be repressed. It is an antidote to smugness and the great glow of satisfaction one gains from being right. You know the self-righteous — I’ve been one myself — the little extra topspin they put on the truth, their ostentatious modesty, the pleasure they take in being beautifully modulated and cool and correct when others are falling apart. Jesus was rougher on those people than He was on the adulterers and prostitutes.

So I will sit in the doubter’s chair for a while and see what is to be learned back there.

  1. Amen,

I say drag those doubts out into the light, and trust the Lord. God honors honest doubt. And, Jesus promises whoever seeks the truth will find it.

Faith is a gift from God, and any relationship with Him is all of grace.

  2. John,

I tagged you with a presbymeme. It's not horrible - almost like an informal poll courtesy of Bruce Reyes-Chow.

    Cheers.

  3. Doubt is but an invitation to something else. I don't fear it, even when it feels uncomfortable.

I must smile in the darkness as well as the light- no?

Yesterday at our Good Friday service, I had an experience not of doubt, but of a complete disconnection.

Still kind of having it. In the tomb, maybe...

    Easter joy to you John.
