PFLAG Tri-Cities Update

If you want to keep up on the latest news nationwide regarding PFLAG, check out the PFLAG National Blog. I have a link on the sidebar.

We have our non-profit status and the paperwork is going to PFLAG National so we can become a chapter. We have a dozen or so folks who are exchanging e-mails and making plans for our first meeting.

If you would like to be involved in this e-mail exchange, we need your full name and e-mail, notify me at pflagtricities@yahoo.com.

On the PFLAG Tri-Cities weblog you can subscribe to receive e-mails when the blog is updated.

One of the things we can think about now is how to publicize PFLAG Tri-Cities. Ideas?

  1. Thanks for that update John. Adding that link myself. Thank God they updated the website too. Looks sooo much better now!

Don't know if you happened across my blog this week, but there is a marriage vote that made it to the PA senate and they are voting on the 18th next week. It is to make marriage defined as a man and a woman. I have posted a response from the senator in my jurisdiction as well as a link to petition against the vote here and this post has a link to my previous post with a little more information.

Any prayers from you and your congregations would be appreciated. Also, PA is going to be pivotal in the democratic nomination. So we have a lot at stake right now.

    Thanks.

    Peace.

  3. PUBLICITY FOR PFLAG

    John,
I would recommend creating a tri-fold pamphlet that is informational and inviting. I would suggest that you then send at least 5 of the pamplets to every social worker / family counselor, or psychologist in the Johnson City, Elizabethton area (I'd go to Kingsport and Boone too!). Also, I would ask your fellow church partners that normally support you to make the information "available". In my experience, it is VERY tough for parents to make the move towards acceptance of a homosexual son/daughter. Their first impression of PFLAG needs to be inviting, comforting, and also confidential. Many are probably more worried about "what the neighbors will think" than the feelings of their own children, but that can change in time. If someone is willing to work with me, I can work with them to create the pamphlet, get it printed in color, and get it shipped to you. Let me know.

  5. I would be happy to donate time to address and postage to mail Scott's pamplets to all the social workers / counselors / agencies etc. in the area. (Bristiol, Kingsport, JC, Greeneville, Elizabethton, Erwin)
