Worst Song of the 80s Result!

The votes have been cast and the worst song of the 80s is Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA with nine votes. Hey Mickey was second worst with seven votes.

I was wondering if we could combine these two songs. How about

Mickey Bless the USA!

  1. Oh, come on. I have fond memories of roller skating (not roller blading, mind you) in junior high to the strains of "Hey Mickey".

    Ah, nostalgia.

  2. How About "God Bless Toni Basil (for Not Making More Songs Like Hey, Mickey!)"

  3. We love "Hey Mickey"! Our daughter will wear a cheerleader costume for Halloween that is very similar to the famous Toni Basil outfit. "You're so fine, you blow my mind, hey Mickey!!!"

  4. Alex,

I hear ya. Some readers of Shuck and Jive have absolutely no taste!

Sounds like a fun Halloween. My favorite was when we lived in Seattle and we dressed our son, who was just learning to wiggle, as a slug.

  5. Whenever I hear "Hey Mickey" I think of the line from "The Simpsons" episode (an otherwise really bad one) in which we learn that Principal Skinner is an impostor and is replaced by the real Principal, a patriotic Vietnam veteran who asks Bart to lead the class in the Pledge of Allegiance. Bart, completely at sea, does his best in a dazed monotone:

"Hey, America, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, hey, America."
