This Is Just Too Weird

The homophobic American Family Association is made up of really warped people. This is just too funny. Apparently, these folks have invented some tricky computer thing to replace the word "gay" with "homosexual" in all AP news stories that they post.

They made an embarrassing slip on this run. In stories about Olympic hopeful Tyson Gay, they replaced his last name. Yup. Check it:

Homosexual eases into 100 final at Olympic trials

Tyson Homosexual easily won his semifinal for the 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials and seemed to save something for the final later Sunday.

His wind-aided 9.85 seconds was a fairly cut-and-dry performance compared to what happened a day earlier. On Saturday, Homosexual misjudged the finish in his opening heat and had to scramble to finish fourth, then in his quarterfinal a couple of hours later, ran 9.77 to break the American record that had stood since 1999.

They fixed it now, but they are still having trouble getting all the references! H/T DAIO.

  1. As I wrote on my blog, just how paranoid is this group, anyway? On a scale of 1 to 10, with one being black helocopter paranoid and ten being two-week-crystal-meth-binge paranoid, I'd give them an eleven.

  2. Heard this on Rachel Maddow (where she gave a technical explanation--they program their news release computer to replace "gay" with "homosexual" for wire service stories (AP, UPI, Reuters) to make the gay sound pathological). Gotta love it!

  3. I am actually on the mailing list for this group. To be fair, they occasionally have pertinent things to say about restrictions on religious freedom, such as some hysterical principal kicking a kid out of school for carrying a Bible. But most of their mailings are about such earth shaking topics as NBC letting an actor use the "f" word on one of their shows. They seem to have no problem with freedom of speech as long as they are the only ones who are allowed to speak freely.

  4. HA!

I truly laughed out loud and am still chuckling at this one.

They must have been thinking about Larry Craig's co-sponsored anti-gay marriage bill when they put this out.

:) That's true. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day, I guess. LOL

  6. I really appreaciated their article "Obama's Leftist Army." That one was a journalistic gem. For a chilling, hope-crushing laugh, read the comments.

  7. This group is one of the few left in this country who are not afraid to stand up for God's written doctrines, and fight to keep the American family on a moral ground. It is a shame that so many of our so-called ordained ministers preach and teach tolerance to sin just to keep their congregation comfortable. Hate the sin not the sinner does not mean to tolerate sin.

  9. "Hate the sin, not the sinner."

I think I heard that somewhere before. Welcome, Anna, some of us think homophobia is a sin, but we don't hate the sinners.
