Defeat Proposed Adoption Ban in Tennessee

Chris Sanders of the Tennessee Equality Project has created a Facebook group for defeating the proposed adoption ban in the Tennessee Legislature. He invites you to join the group, contact your legislator, and contribute to TNEP. This is the text from Facebook:
Sen. Paul Stanley (R-Cordova) proposed a piece of legislation in January 2009 that would allow only married couples to adopt in our state. This not only hurts our community, but also is hurtful to all the children who are without parents from being loved and adopted by a wider range of loving parents. After the hope that the newly elected president has given our country and the joy we felt after defeating the English Only initiative in Davidson County, this comes as a huge blow. We knew after our defeat in 2006 of our marriage equality campaign that they would next go after our adoption rights. This is the time we must stand together - LGBTQ and straight, religious and non-religious, to be a single voice to tell those who seek to take away our rights that we will not stand for this injustice.

Here is the exact wording of the proposed bill:

Adoption - Prohibits any individual who is cohabitating in a sexual relationship outside of a marriage that is valid under the constitution and laws of this state from adopting a minor. - Amends TCA Title 36 and Title 49.

Call your local representative: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/legislators/

and call Sen. Paul Stanley's office directly:http://www.capitol.tn.gov/senate/members/S31.html

We need resources to fight this hatred. In these hard economic times, $10 can be helpful even. Please go to http://tnep.org/html/donate_now.html to give whatever you can to defend equal rights. Thank you for your action and support!
This would be a good time to put that pledge you made for the Rev. Rick Warren prayer to good use!

Thanks Chris. Support equality locally by joining Tennessee Equality Project Tri-Cities.
