"Fidelity": Don't Divorce... from Courage Campaign on Vimeo.
Infamous prosecutor Ken Starr has filed a legal brief -- on behalf of the "Yes on 8" campaign -- to nullify the 18,000 same-sex marriages performed in California between May and November of 2008.Sign a letter to the Supreme Court here.
It's time to put a face to Ken Starr's shameful legal proceedings. To put a face to the 18,000 couples facing forcible divorce. To put a face to marriage equality. Because, gay or straight, YOU are the face of the Marriage Equality Movement.
This is, unfortunately, a consistent tactic of the right on these so-called marriage amendments: lie, lie, lie.
ReplyDeleteIn 2004, there was an anti-gay marriage amendment on the ballot here in Michigan. We were told by its supporters that if it passed, it would not affect domestic partnership benefits, civil unions, or anything else but marriage. In fact, the amendment is so broadly worded that even estate planning and medical power of attorney documents are probably not legal between same sex partners in Michigan. Almost the day after it was passed, they used the excuse of the broad wording of the amendment to file suit to get rid of domestic partnership benefits for state employees. Then they and won.
Fast forward a few years, and the same liars said that Prop 8 would not affect those who had already gotten married in CA. Of course, that also was a lie.
There are several other examples of the same sort of lies in other states with these bans. Frankly, I'm not surprised that they're liars, I'm only surprised that they seem to get away with it so often without anyone calling them on it.
Yep. It does. Ken Starr is like the "universal" Church Lady. He is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too concerned about other people's intimacy.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be a great country if people like Ken Starr had lives of their own?
ReplyDeleteLove or perish? People like Starr will find out the hard way.
Ken Starr has messed up a lot of things, not just marriage. He single handedly brought down America's technological superiority in the world by forcing ITAR restriction on companies that donated to the Bill Clinton campaigns. For example.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the Church medieval can get a lot worse. Check this story out:

John, thanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteIt is just mean, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteLike the new adoption ban before the Tennessee legislature.
Mean, mean, mean.
Ken Starr is a Booger.
There I said it.
Wow, John. Save some of that vitriol for Paul Stanley.
ReplyDeleteYet, it is ok for a single woman who has six kids have 8 via IVF more under the law. It is mathematically impossible for her to give the same rate of exchange of love, care and nurture to her kids as it is for any same gender couple to give to their one or two adopted kids. Yet the latter is not protected under the law and the former is.
ReplyDeleteI would not be incorrect to call this legal disjuncture biological discrimination.
This action risks the lives of children and that needs to be at the fore of people's pea-brained thinking.
Un-f@$king-believable that this social harm is so believable isn't it?
